Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has said he would love to see Johnny Depp return as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
The 59-year-old actor has played the comedy pirate five times in Disney’s hit action-adventure films, which are currently being revived for a sixth film.
Bruckheimer told Entertainment Tonight on the Oscars red carpet: “We’re all working on it [the next Pirates film]. We’ll see how it turns out. We’re very excited, I think we’ll have a great script when, and we’re getting close.”

When asked if Depp could possibly be involved, he said: “We’ll see. I would love it. I would love to have him in the film – that’s all I can tell you.”
Margot Robbie confirmed last year that the female-led film Pirates of the Caribbean, which she was committed to, will no longer be continued.
Depp was rumored to be in talks with Disney for a multi-million dollar deal to reprise his role as Jack Sparrow.

His spokesman denied these reports in June 2022.
Depp previously said, “If Disney came up with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on earth would make me want to go back and work on one with Disney Pirates of the Caribbean Movie.”
He said during his defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard that he felt betrayed by Disney and made the comment after feeling the company had shunned him.
Depp starred as Captain Jack Sparrow in all five previous Pirates of the Caribbean films between 2003 and 2017.
The original film, The Curse Of The Black Pearl, starring Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom, was inspired by the Disney theme park ride.
Depp said during his recent defamation trial that while Disney distanced itself from him after his public divorce battle with Heard in 2017, it continued to use his image on the rides and sell merchandise featuring him.
The actor said in a previous interview: “If [people are] moved in any way by Captain Jack Sparrow, I don’t need company to do that. I can just do it myself and no one can take it from me, so that’s Captain Jack Sparrow’s greatest joy.”
Robbie told Vanity Fair in December 2022 that their pirate project was dead in the water.
She said: “We had an idea and we developed it ages ago to have more of a woman led – not entirely female led but just a different kind of story – which we thought was really cool but I guess her.” don’t wanna do it.”
Depp won in her defamation lawsuit against Heard after a jury ruled in his favour. Depp sued Heard for defamation in an article she wrote in 2018, claiming she was a domestic violence survivor.
Heard – who in turn had sued Depp – was ordered to pay him $10.35 million in damages.

The couple met on the set of the 2011 film The Rum Diary. They married in 2015 and Heard filed for divorce in 2016.
