Your five-night trip begins with three nights at either the boutique Sanctuary Baines’ Camp or the sustainability-focused Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp. The former sits over the Boro River in a private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve and has six self-contained suites on stilts. With an eco-conscious design (walls made from recycled materials and neutrally decorated to blend in with the wild surroundings), the camp features a colorful lounge and hanging chairs, as well as a swimming pool with expansive views over the lagoon, and a light-filled bedroom in each suite that stretches out opens onto a curved terrace overlooking the river. Return from your daily game drives for a soak in the Star Bath, a unique free-standing bathtub on each private patio, before settling into your four-poster bed, which unfolds to sit under the delta stars.
Alternatively, choose Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp, also located on the 260,000-acre private concession in the Okavango Delta and designed with sustainability in mind. It is a traditional safari camp and features an Explorer Lounge, a large dining area, an al fresco bar with spectacular views and a swimming pool overlooking the savannah and giraffes marching by. The ten classic-style tents each have a decking area overlooking the dramatic flood plains, so you can play spot-the-game from your bedroom, too.
For the final two nights of your trip, continue to the Sanctuary Chief’s Camp – in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve, known as the predator capital of Africa. Well integrated into a setting of winding waterways, reed beds, mopane forest and seasonal lagoons, the camp offers ten bush suites with private dining areas, en-suite bathrooms with floor to ceiling windows, outdoor seating areas and terraced pools – ideal to appreciate the surrounding plains and majestic to watch African sunsets. There’s also a stylish common area with a bar and library, as well as a spa, fitness center, and swimming pool.
A variety of activities are available throughout the trip, including walking safaris, night drives and scenic helicopter flights, while expert guides are on hand to share their extensive wildlife knowledge as you explore the delta in the morning in modified, open 4×4 vehicles and game drives in the afternoon. On the plains you may see roaming lions preying on antelope, zebra and buffalo, and when the water levels are high these trips are combined with excursions in traditional dugout canoes known as mokoros, gliding through lily ponds past drinking buffalo and pods of hippos .
